Premier Binns Welcomes Safe Return of HMCS Charlottetown

Premier's Office
Today's safe return of the HMCS Charlottetown to port is welcome news, says Premier Pat Binns.

The Premier's comments follow the completion of HMCS Charlottetown's mission as part of Operation Apollo, Canada's contribution to the international coalition against terrorism. The HMCS Charlottetown spent almost five months on duty in the Arabian Sea and returned to port in Halifax this morning.

"On behalf of the Province, I welcome the safe return of the HMCS Charlottetown and her crew from active duty. Your effort in the fight against terrorism demonstrates Canada's commitment," said Premier Binns.

Since the HMCS Charlottetown left for duty in October, a page for the HMCS Charlottetown has been active on the government website where Islanders and others could send messages of support to friends and family on duty. Over 200 people posted messages of support. The site provided numerous links to other military information sources as well as a copy of a unanimous resolution passed in the Legislature in support of Canadian Forces.

"The strong response on the government website from Islanders and people around the world shows how much we appreciate the service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform when duty calls," said Premier Binns.
