East Prince Health Partners With Community Through Wellness Event

* East Prince Health Region [to Nov 2005]
Building on the success of recent community wellness events, East Prince Health has announced the date for Lifestyle 2002, the health region's community health and education fair. The event is planned for Saturday, March 2 from 12:30 until 4 p.m. at Three Oaks High School.

"Wellness events such as Lifestyle 2002 always prove to be very popular with the community," noted East Prince Health Wellness Coordinator Maureen Paquet. " Each year, we usually see over 100 people register for this event which includes various interactive presentations in classrooms at Three Oaks High School. People also really enjoy the exhibits from various health organizations and the chance to mingle with other community residents during our nutrition break."

"Participation is possible through advance registration only," noted Ms. Paquet. "We do this to ensure that no one will be turned away from the event due to overcrowding in the classrooms. Through the event we also learn about the public's interest in other health and wellness events such as smoking cessation or healthy child development seminars so we develop further activities according to community interest," noted Ms. Paquet.

The opening session is called "Positive Thinking -You Have the Choice!." Presenter Ken McGregor will provide a humourous, inspirational call for participants to improve their life by making the connection between how people think and feel.

There are other sessions to choose from throughout the afternoon – topics range from the latest in nutrition, physical activity, reflexology, meditation, naturopathic medicine and stress management.

"It was very encouraging to see such a wide range of ages participate in last year's event. We had whole families arriving – teens, parents, grandparents as well as a few circles of friends or just interested individuals, " added Ms. Paquet.

The event is offered free of charge to the community. The health region is striving to provide the community with ongoing health and wellness information that will assist them to make healthy choices for themselves and their families. Through the event, the public can also provide East Prince Health with information on their health needs and ways that the health region can respond to those needs.

East Prince Health is committed to increasing its emphasis on the promotion of health and wellness through its daily operations at all 14 service sites throughout East Prince.
