Cranberry Management Course Coming Up

* Agriculture and Forestry [to Oct 2003]
The Prince Edward Island Cranberry Growers Association is hosting the Atlantic Cranberry Management Course in Charlottetown on March 17 to 19. This is the first time the Association has hosted the course.

The main theme of this year's course is "Extending Cranberry Markets," focusing on the development of new products. The guest speaker is Dr. Nora Ganim-Hines of the University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth.

"Cranberry production offers exciting new opportunities for Prince Edward Island, and the provincial government has made a strong commitment to the future of the industry through the Cranberry Development Program, extension services and other initiatives," said Agriculture and Forestry Minister Mitch Murphy. "I encourage new and prospective growers to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to capitalize on these opportunities."

There are 86 acres of cranberry bog now under development in Prince Edward Island. Commercial production will begin in 2003.
