Internet Radio Station to Play Music of Islanders

* Development and Technology [to Apr 2008]
The Government of Prince Edward Island, in cooperation with the PEI Council of the Arts and Island musicians, today launched an Internet radio station which will exclusively play the music of Islanders.

"We have established this radio station to promote the culture of the province and to enable Island musicians to promote their music," said Hon. Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology.

"We were delighted with the success of our partnership and the response to our on-line broadcast of the East Coast Music Awards radio station last year. As a result, the Council of the Arts was instrumental in working with Island musicians to collect the music and to promote the project."

Island musicians, featuring a wide range of musical genres, are involved in the radio station.

"We are extremely pleased that the Government of Prince Edward Island has offered to broadcast the work of Island musicians," stated Judy Whitaker, Executive Director of the PEI Council of the Arts. "This will enable us to reach a national and international audience which would not be possible without the Government's efforts in establishing the radio station."

In addition to playing the music of Islanders, the Web site will provide links to Web sites and email addresses to those musicians who have opted to participate. The Internet radio station features only PEI artists. To access the radio station, visit www.gov.pe.ca/radio. Internet users will need a free music player. Information is provided at the Web site as to where to obtain the free music player.
