* Economic Development [to Jul 1998]
On-Line Support Inc. of Charlottetown has recently secured two new contracts that necessitate the expansion of the company's call centre located at the Capital Honda building in West Royalty. The two new clients are iStar Internet Inc., a major player in the Canadian Internet service business, and Cable Atlantic. As a result of these new clients, 20 new employees will be hired at the call centre and will make On-Line Support's 30-seat call centre Canada's leading Internet support call centre.

The company currently provides technical support to HookUp Communications, one of Canada's largest Internet service providers, as well as several US-based telephone companies that also provide Internet service access.

Istar and Hookup are two of the country's leading Internet providers. Together they provide service to over 100,000 Canadians. Cable Atlantic is a Newfoundland-based company that provides cable and Internet service to its customers.

"The success of On-Line Support is an example of the growing information technology sector on Prince Edward Island," said Wes MacAleer, Minister of Economic Development and Tourism. "The Province continues to establish itself as a leader in the delivery of information and communications technology."

Government provided support of $70,000 for the creation of the additional 20 jobs at the On-Line facility.

"We are very excited about this new phase in the growth of the company," said Jamie Hill, President of On-Line Support. "These two new contracts will bring the total number of employees at the centre to 65."

The On-Line Support call centre provides technical support in three languages to its customers' clients in Canada and the US 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
