Honourable Pat Binns, Premier of Prince Edward Island, today announced two appointments to the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission.
The Premier announced the appointment of Ginger Breedon to the position of Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission. Mr. Breedon, IRAC's Vice-Chair since 1997, succeeds Wayne D. Cheverie, Q.C. who resigned from IRAC to take an appointment to the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island.
"Mr. Breedon, having served as Vice-Chair, provides continuity in the management of IRAC. I am pleased that he has agreed to assume additional responsibility," noted the Premier.
Also, the Premier announced that Maurice Rodgerson, currently a full-time Commissioner at IRAC, will succeed Mr. Breedon as the organization's Vice-Chair. "With Mr. Rodgerson handling duties as Vice-Chair, IRAC will benefit from his experience on the Commission," said Premier Binns.
Both Mr. Breedon and Mr. Rodgerson's appointments are effective immediately.
The Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission is an independent tribunal that hears appeals on issues relating to land use, property and revenue (sales) tax and unsightly premises. It administers land ownership legislation in Prince Edward Island and regulates the petroleum industry and certain water and wastewater utilities. IRAC was established in 1991 following the amalgamation of the former Public Utilities Commission, Land Use Commission and the Office of the Director of Residential Rental Property. The Commission reports directly to the Prince Edward Island Legislative Assembly.
