Minister of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Environment Chester Gillan has announced the appointment of Kevin MacAdam of Morell as chair of the Prince Edward Island Environmental Advisory Council.

A teacher at Rollo Bay Consolidated School, MacAdam has served on the Council for approximately four years.

"Kevin has been a dedicated member of the Environmental Advisory Council and has contributed a great deal to the various projects the Council has undertaken in recent years. I am pleased he has agreed to assume the responsibility of chair," said Minister Gillan.

MacAdam replaces Dr. Donna Giberson who stepped down as chair but has agreed to serve as vice-chair of the Advisory Council.

The Environmental Advisory Council is appointed under the Environmental Protection Act to advise the Minister of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Environment on issues of environmental concern.

In addition to the new chair, Minister Gillan has announced several other appointments to the Environmental Advisory Council:

• Johnny Flynn of Souris joins the Council for a three-year term. Flynn fishes lobster at North Lake and grows oysters in Souris River. He is president of the Island Oyster Growers Group.

• Also appointed to the Environmental Advisory Council for a three-year term is Summerside lawyer Sherra Profit. A graduate of the law school at the University of Saskatchewan, Profit took several courses in environmental law and completed a directed research project on the Report of the Round Table on Resource Land Use and Stewardship.

• Ron Perry of Summerside has been appointed to a three-year term on the Council. Perry is a teacher at Elm Street Elementary School in Summerside and a former city councillor in that city.

• Sarah Stewart of Charlottetown is the new youth representative on the Advisory Council. Stewart is a student at UPEI, working on a Masters of Science degree in biology. She replaces Ricki Lee Sulis who is pursuing graduate studies out of province.

• Stan Campbell, a member of the New Haven-Riverdale Community Council, replaces Peggy Coffin as the Federation of PEI Municipalities representative on the Advisory Council.

• Dr. Pierre-Yves Daoust of Wheatley River and Rudy Croken of Kensington have been re-appointed to a second three-year term on the Council.

"I welcome the new members to the Environmental Advisory Council," said Minister Gillan. "They bring with them a wide range of experience and expertise. Together with the current members, I am sure they will serve the province well. I look forward to working with them."

While announcing the new appointments, the minister also took the opportunity to thank retiring Council members Bruce Gillespie, Ricki Lee Sulis and Peggy Coffin for their service.

Other members of the Environmental Advisory Council are Dr. Leon Loucks of Charlottetown, Lorne MacNeill of West Cape, Barry Cudmore of Brackley, Emmerson McMillan of Ascension, and Terry Perry of Millvale.
