August 14, 2001 * Agriculture and Forestry [to Oct 2003]The Acadian Entomological Society will be holding its 61st annual meeting in Charlottetown on August 22 to 25. Approximately 25 members of the Society from Atlantic Canada and the northeastern United States will be attending. The keynote speaker is Dr. Robbin Lindsay, a research scientist with Health Canada's infectious diseases lab in Winnipeg. He will be making a presentation on his research into insect vectors of infectious diseases, including the work that is being done to detect the West Nile virus in Canada. "The meeting will provide an excellent opportunity to discuss the latest research on ways to protect our natural resources and human health from damage and diseases spread by insects," said Rachael Cheverie, President of the Society. She is also the integrated pest management specialist with the provincial Department of Agriculture and Forestry. The annual meetings of the Society highlights regional perspectives on issues related to agriculture, forestry, aquatic and general entomology, along with provincial and state pest updates.Media Contact: Rachael Cheverie
