Premier Recognizes Contribution of A.A. "Joey" Fraser

Premier's Office
Premier Pat Binns today acknowledged the passing of A.A. "Joey" Fraser, a former Member of the Prince Edward Island Legislative Assembly. Mr. Fraser, aged 81, died late last night.

"Joey was a tireless worker for his people," said the Premier. "Even while in hospital, he would call on behalf of those who had difficulties. He put others first, and Islanders will never forget his contribution."

A. A. "Joey" Fraser was first elected in 1981 and subsequently re-elected in 1982 and 1986. He was a member of North Nova Scotia Highlanders and served the Canadian Army overseas during World War II. As a D-Day veteran, Fraser was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Knights of Columbus.

Having worked with Esso Oil and Shell Oil, Fraser became very familiar with the residents of Montague and surrounding areas. He was active in his community of Montague, serving as town councillor, school trustee and board member. His participation in politics, as well as community and church activities, earned him respect and admiration from his peers, friends and neighbours.

A. A. "Joey" Fraser leaves to mourn his wife Mary and children – Arthur, Allan, Blair, Gerard, Robert, Noreen and Rita, as well as 14 grandchildren.

"On behalf of my colleagues in the Government Caucus, I want to extend sincere sympathies to Mary, her children and their families," stated Premier Binns.
