Martha MacIsaac, the young Islander who plays the lead role in the new television series Emily of New Moon, has been nominated for a YTV Achievement Award. MacIsaac is one of ten Canadian children and the only Atlantic Canadian nominated in the Acting category.
Martha is the 12 year-old daughter of Bruce and Irene MacIsaac of Charlottetown. She also appears in the "Come Play on my Island" ads for Tourism PEI.
The YTV Achievement Awards is a celebration that recognizes ordinary Canadian youth who have made some extraordinary achievements in fifteen different categories including Acting, Band/Musical Group, Bravery, Vocal and Visual Arts.
Winners will be chosen in mid-February. The live national telecast of the 8th Annual YTV Achievement Awards will air in April. Winners are awarded a statuette along with a $3,000 cash honorarium and an all expenses paid trip to the host city.
YTV is Canada's first and only specialty network dedicated to kids of all ages. The channel has an average weekly audience of more than 10 million viewers and is Canada's most watched speciality channel.
Emily of New Moon, the new television series based on the books by Lucy Maud Montgomery, author of Anne of Green Gables, is currently been shot in Prince Edward Island and will begin airing on WIC stations across the country beginning in September.
