Second Annual Student Information Technology Expo to be Held on May 12

* Education [to Apr 2008]
The Department of Education is hosting the second annual Student Information Technology Expo on Saturday, May 12 at West Royalty Elementary as part of the provincial IT Week activities.

"The Student Information Technology Expo offers students the opportunity to showcase projects they have completed in school," said the Honourable Jeffrey E. Lantz, Minister of Education. "Our schools were the first in Canada to be entirely connected to the Internet. Students are very comfortable with using technology in the classroom as it becomes increasingly integrated with school curriculum."

Last year more than 60 students attended the first Student Information Technology Expo in Summerside. This year, more than 80 students are expected to participate.

Bruce Brine, expo coordinator with the Department of Education, said he expects the expo to continue to grow each year. "The students are really excited about presenting their projects to their parents, peers and the public," said Mr. Brine. "Every day students are learning more about information technology – how it fits in with their school work and the world around them. We are confident that this expo will continue to grow in the years to come."

The expo runs from 10 am - 12 pm and 1 pm - 3 pm. The event marks the close of IT Week celebrations on Prince Edward Island.
