Workshop To Examine Effective Ways To Deal With Childhood Obesity

* Health and Social Services [to Nov 2005]
An evening workshop for Islanders interested in examining effective ways to deal with childhood obesity is being sponsored by the Departments of Health and Social Services, Education, Community and Cultural Affairs, and several community organizations.

Conducted by Dr. Mark Tremblay, a leading researcher in the area of childhood obesity, the workshop recognizes that physical activity and healthy eating are important ways to help children maintain a healthy weight. Yet, often it is difficult to know if children are receiving enough physical activity or eating the kinds of foods they need.

Dr. Tremblay and a panel of PEI presenters will help us to understand how we can creatively encourage physical activity and healthy eating in our children.

Panel presenters include: Dave "Eli" MacEachern, Olympic Gold Medalist; John Morrison, Regional Recreation Coordinator, Cultural and Community Affairs; Dale MacIsaac, Principal Georgetown Elementary; and Cheryl Turnbull-Bruce, Registered Dietitian.

The workshop will take place in the Lecture Theatre of Holland College (Charlottetown) on Thursday, May 10th from 7:00-8:30 PM. There is no charge to attend the workshop. For additional information please contact 368-4900.
