Minister of Tourism, Honourable Greg Deighan, announced today in the Legislature that the Canadian Ladies' Golf Association National Junior Championship will be played at the Mill River Golf Course in Woodstock PEI, August 5 - 8, 2002.
The four-day event will provide Islanders and visitors alike with some great golf competition and provide significant exposure for the Mill River Golf Course, furthering PEI's reputation as a top-notch golf destination.
Tourism PEI has developed a strong working relationship with the Canadian Ladies' Golf Association and will be working closely with the PEI Ladies' Golf Association in hosting the event. In the past, Tourism PEI has been a great supporter of junior golf, and this type of event will provide a tourism stimulus to the West Prince area.
"The calibre of golf in the National Junior Championships is extremely high," noted Minister Deighan. "I believe Lorie Kane played in the National Junior many times and we may even see tomorrow's Lorie Kane emerge from this competition."
The 2002 Canadian Ladies' Golf Association National Junior Championships will join a large list of prestigious golf events which have been held on Prince Edward Island such as the Canadian Amateur, the DuMaurier Series, the 1998 Skins Game, the Lorie Kane Island Challenge, the National Senior Ladies, and the Canadian Tour.
Information and further details of the event will be provided in the upcoming months.
