Pork Conference To Hear From Industry Leaders

* Agriculture and Forestry [to Oct 2003]
The Prince Edward Island Pork Conference is being held on February 6 and it will provide an opportunity for discussion with some of the industry's top producers.

The featured speaker at this year's conference is Dr. Camille Moore of St. Cesaire, Quebec who has a wealth of practical experience serving producers in Quebec, other Canadian provinces and the United States for the past 16 years. He has been actively involved in the establishment of several high health and multi-site production systems.

Dr. Moore has addressed a number of international pork conferences and was awarded the 1993 Swine Practitioner of the Year Award by the American Association of Swine Practitioners. He will talk to Island producers about dealing with the PRRS virus, benefits and drawbacks of early weaning, segregated production and a new farrowing barn design.

Other sessions at the conference include Nova Scotia swine producer Lester Palmer who will discuss his experiences with biotech shelters; video tours of barns operated by Gordon Lank and Reg MacDonald; and a presentation on the Pork Quality Assurance Program by Catherine Scovil of the Canadian Pork Council.

The day-long conference takes place at the Dutch Inn, with registration at 9:00 a.m. For more information, call Paul Jenkins of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry at 368-5606.
