Expanded Spring Weight Restrictions For Commercial Vehicles On Island Roads Announced

The Department of Transportation and Public Works today announced its intention to introduce expanded Spring Weight Restrictions for Island roads. This comes in response to increased damage to Island roads caused by heavy commercial trucks and contracting equipment.

"In past years Spring Weight restrictions have been limited to paved highways. However, the level of road damage that has occurred this winter has prompted the Department to extend the Spring Weight Restrictions to gravel and clay roads to ensure the safety of the travelling public and reduce further damage to our Road Network," said Transportation and Public Works Minister Don MacKinnon in announcing this measure.

Spring Weight Restrictions will come into effect at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, March 15th. Notices will be posted through local media outlets outlining targeted areas. The Department of Transportation and Public Works thanks the travelling public for their cooperation.
