* Tourism [to Jan 2010]
The Honourable Greg Deighan, Minister of Tourism, and Mr. James Tingley, Co-chair of the Tourism Marketing Authority (TMA), announced today the 2001 Tourism Marketing and Media Strategy for the upcoming year.

"In our industry, partnerships are essential to our success. Tourism PEI depends on partnerships to develop new products and to carry out its marketing plan," noted Minister Deighan. "The Tourism Marketing Authority, who oversees the development of the plan is, in effect, a partnership between industry and government with players from all sectors of our province as well as provincial government representation. We work together to formulate our plan and then, with a team effort from the entire industry, we join together to fulfil the expectations of travellers who do decide to visit Prince Edward Island."

The 2001 Marketing and Media Plan features a new 30-second television commercial which will air in the Maritimes; all new magazine and newspaper ads in Quebec, Ontario and New England; on-line advertising is increased; and more direct mail or consumer promotions are planned for all markets.

James Tingley noted, The Tourism Marketing Authority and Tourism PEI have been working hard over the last few months reviewing research, revising media plans, approving creative concepts and getting ready for another great new year in the tourism business." He added, Today has been an outstanding experience with the Tourism Industry Association Tourism 2001 Conference and Semi Annual Meeting being followed up by the annual TMA Marketing and Media Plan Launch. It has been a full and productive 'tourism day'."

Copies of the Tourism Marketing Authority Media Plan Highlights and tourism publications for 2001 were distributed to the crowd at the Confederation Centre.
