Technology PEI Launches 2nd Annual E-Business Plan Competition

Islanders looking to start a business in the IT sector are encouraged to participate in the 2nd Annual E-business plan competition called St@rt Up Challenge 2001. This initiative aims to generate innovative new business ideas from people with an interest in the information technology industry.

All residents of Prince Edward Island are eligible to participate. Winners will receive prizes, including: cash, equipment, Internet access and hosting, marketing support and professional services to help start up a new venture.

This year's competition will be open to two different categories; a student category and a new or existing business category. There will be a first and second prize winner in each category along with an overall grand prize winner.

"The young people of this province have a great interest in the information technology industry and it's exciting to see the various types of e-business ideas they create," says the Honourable Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. "We also know that there are many entrepreneurs across this province with innovative e-business ideas that they are looking to develop. This is an excellent opportunity for these business people."

Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to register online at the official

St@rt-Up Challenge website at http://www.peistartupchallenge.com. Here they will find complete rules, business planning resources and key competition dates. Participants may also pick up an official St@rt-Up Challenge Registration Kit at the Regional Service Centres or Access sites across the province.

Support for this project is provided by Technology PEI, the lead information technology corporation for the province, assisting knowledge based companies in developing and advancing business development initiatives. Additional support is provided by event sponsors, including: Island Tel-An Aliant Company, Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales, Island Services Network, Baker Consulting, MicroAge and PriceWaterhouse Coopers.
