CAE, the world leader in flight simulation technology, today announced that it will be opening its first operation in Prince Edward Island early this spring. The company, with revenues of more than $1 billion and 80 percent of the global commercial flight simulator market, will establish a specialized engineering unit in Slemon Park to upgrade Instructor Operator Stations (IOS) in older commercial flight simulators. The launch project will create 15 positions for (IOS) upgrades in support of CAE's Montreal-based engineering updates department.
"We have had a number of exciting announcements lately in the development of the Aerospace sector in PEI," said Premier Pat Binns. "The opportunity to welcome CAE to our aerospace cluster adds a new dimension, bringing us the highly sought-after engineering component. This is a great opportunity to provide engineering level jobs to Islanders here at home."
"We are keen to use modern technology to access engineering talents remotely," said Derek H. Burney, President and Chief Executive Officer of CAE. "Gone are the days when efficiency required everything to be done under one roof. We are confident that we can attract engineering and software expertise in PEI to support our products on a worldwide basis."
"The Province is always seeking targeted opportunities to grow our provincial output," said Minister of Development and Technology, Mike Currie. "We are gradually and systematically strengthening our economy and standard of living through strategic investment such as this." He added, "CAE is the only company I can think of with such a market dominance and I look forward to the future opportunities with this prestigious company in our Province."
With the addition of CAE, Prince Edward Island will be home to seven international aerospace companies. CAE will bring the Province's aerospace sector to a new level where employees will redesign systems and write computer code for instructor operating systems.
CAE is the world's premier supplier of simulation and control technologies for training and optimisation solutions in the Aerospace, Defence and Forestry sectors. Headquartered in Canada and operating globally, the company employs more than 6,000 people, of which over 4,000 are based at CAE's Montreal, Quebec, facility.
