Island`s Golf Resorts Receive Special Award

* Economic Development [to Jul 1998]
Tourism PEI announced today that Longhurst Golf Corporation of Ontario has included both the Brudenell River and Mill River Resorts in its select list of Canada's Top 25 Golf Resorts for the 1997 edition of Canada's golf course ranking magazine. The publishers rank the resorts according to the results of a survey of 125 avid golfers from across Canada. In addition to choosing both resorts as Gold Award winners, putting them in the top 20 among all golf resorts in Canada, the Longhurst panel determined that the Rodd properties, Brudenell and Mill River, are the two golf resorts offering best value in the country.

The Best Value Golf Resort award takes into consideration overall value for the golf, accommodations and food and beverage.

"This is indeed an honour for our golf industry," said Wes MacAleer, Minister of Economic Development and Tourism for Prince Edward Island. "While Islanders are well aware of the great golf product we have here, it's certainly gratifying to be recognized by a survey panel such as this one."

The award caps off a series of announcements in recent years reporting continued growth in golf revenues and tourism visitation. As well, several new courses have opened in the province in the past year.

"It's clear that our golf product is an important component of the Island tourism plan, attracting a large number of visitors and generating significant revenues," said Mr. MacAleer.
