Thousands of brightly colored Christmas cards encouraging safe, sober driving will be handed out to motorists across the Island by Students Against Drunk Driving and local police officers during the Holiday Season.
Michael Currie, Minister of Transportation and Public Works, announced his Department's support for a Christmas Card Campaign organized by the SADD Chapters of all Island High Schools to increase public awareness of impaired driving.
"SADD is a dynamic and effective youth based group dealing with the issues of impaired driving. They have organized to help save their own lives and the lives of others," said Mr. Currie. "One specific indicator which appears to reflect the impact of SADD activities is the decrease in impaired driving charges among the 16 to 19 year olds."
Constable Richard Collins of the Charlottetown Police Department said, "the objectives of SADD - the Red Ribbon Campaign and road checks - complement the mandate and programs of the law enforcement agencies throughout the Province. We are happy to help them with this message."
Denise Turner, Colonel Gray High SADD Chapter, asks everyone to plan ahead if you are having anything to drink this Holiday Season. She said, "please seek safe, sober transportation home. Remember, friends don't let friends drink and drive."
