The Prince Edward Island Emergency Measures Organization has reported flooding of inland and coastal areas. The northeastern shore area of the province appears to be the most affected at this time.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works is presently carrying out inspections. At this time, there are eight primary sites being examined. Damage appears to be to embankments and approach roads. Three bridges were also affected resulting in road closures in areas of Oyster Bed Bridge, New London (Paynter's Bridge) and Cascumpec (Bridge Route #12).
Parks Canada has also reported damage to crossing structures to beaches in the Stanhope and Dalvay areas. The Road to Robinson's Island (Rustico Island) has been closed due to the possibility of undermining.
There have also been reports from the Tignish area indicating debris in the harbour near Sea Cow Pond and sand dunes washed away in Tignish Run.
There have been no reports of damage to private property at this time.
Reports from the Environment Canada Weather Office in Bedford, Nova Scotia indicate that tomorrow, October 31, 2000, we could expect similar storm conditions as experienced this past weekend. This is a result of expected gale force north easterly winds tomorrow and higher than normal tides. However, tomorrow's weather is not expected to be as severe as experienced this weekend.
