PEI is sending a delegation of 74 to Softworld 2000 in Halifax, October 15 - 18. Softworld 2000 is a unique IT forum focussed on creating access to global business leaders, organizations and markets resulting in business relationships and growth opportunities.
The key industry sectors which PEI is planning to attract attention from include energy, education, healthcare, finance, e-commerce and entertainment.
Team PEI will be led by the Information Technologies Association of PEI (ITAP) and representatives from the Department of Development and Technology and Technology PEI. Team members are committed to promoting not only their own abilities but also the abilities of their fellow members. Team PEI's Web site, teampei.com, provides information about all team members and their activities.
"I am pleased to be a member of such a strong PEI delegation to a conference so important to the IT industry in Prince Edward Island and around the globe," says Jim Johnston, Deputy Minister of Development and Technology. "This is our opportunity to showcase our IT industry to the world and our ability to compete on a global scale while producing worldclass solutions."
Softworld 2000 is also an opportunity for Team PEI to begin preparations to host Softworld 2002 and demonstrate PEI as one of the best locations for IT conferences and IT business.
"ITAP is pleased to participate as a member of Team PEI. This is especially important as we present one of the largest delegations to the Softworld 2000 event," says Mike Ives, President of ITAP. "PEI has many unique qualities to demonstrate to the world, namely an IT industry which is second-to-none and ready and able to provide IT solutions to world markets."
The primary objective of Softworld is to foster alliances between Canadian software and software services companies and potential worldwide partners interested in helping to market, distribute or co-develop and support software products. Softworld promotes Canada as an international technology and market leader in software. Softworld also provides Canadian software company personnel with opportunities to network and discuss technological issues and opportunities with their peers and potential partners.
Softworld was founded in 1991, by the Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC), British Columbia's IT association and entrepreneurs. The success of the initial event in Vancouver laid the groundwork for a subsequent event in 1993 and the expansion to the east coast of Canada in 1994. Since then, the event has alternated between Vancouver and locations in Atlantic Canada. Prince Edward Island will host Softworld in September 2002.
Team PEI is enthusiastic about the Softworld 2000 event and the potential for new and exciting partnerships with companies around the globe and in planning to host Softworld 2002.
