Young Hunters Eligible For Salmon Fishing Trip

* Fisheries, Aquaculture and Environment [to Oct 2003]
Young Islanders who take firearm safety training before waterfowl season opens will have a chance to spend a weekend salmon fishing in Newfoundland next summer.

All Island youth, between the ages of 12 and 17 inclusive, who participate in the Youth Waterfowl Hunting Workshop September 9, or take a firearm safety course prior to October 1, are eligible for a draw to be held in October 2000.

The prize is an all-expenses-paid trip for the winning youth and one adult to go salmon fishing on the Humber River in Deer Lake, Newfoundland, July 3-6, 2001.

The draw is part of an initiative of the Department of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Environment to encourage youth involvement in the sport of waterfowl hunting and ensure beginning hunters receive proper training, and in turn, become better stewards of their resources.

Firearm safety courses are being held at five locations across the province between September 8 and 24. Waterfowl season opens Monday, October 2.
