There has been extensive construction activity by the tranquil Brudenell River over the past two years. A new hotel wing, deluxe cottages and increased conference space are just a few of the latest additions at Rodd Brudenell River - A Rodd Signature Resort, which were officially opened today in Roseneath.

The new hotel wing features 21 guestrooms and 27 suites. There are also 16 new deluxe cottages, which opened in 1999, each with two bedrooms that can be locked off and sold as 32 separate guestrooms. With the expansion, Rodd Brudenell River - A Rodd Signature Resort now has 181 guestrooms, making it the second largest accommodation facility on Prince Edward Island.

"I congratulate Rodd Hotels & Resorts on the quality work that has been done at Brudenell. The expansion helps to make eastern Prince Edward Island an even more attractive vacation destination and will help to keep visitors in the area for longer periods of time," said the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Solicitor General of Canada, representing the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

The new Rodd Brudenell River Golf & Conference Centre features 2,236 square feet of conference space, Club 19 restaurant and lounge, and a deluxe golf shop to service the Brudenell River and Dundarave Golf Courses.

"The provincial government is very pleased to partner in this re-development of the Rodd Brudenell River - A Rodd Signature Resort," said the Honourable Pat Binns, Premier of Prince Edward Island. "The addition of Dundarave to the existing Brudenell course, the additional guest rooms, as well as the Golf Academy facilities and Golf and Conference Centre have increased the profile of the entire resort and area, and indeed the entire Island. We have a property here that rivals any in the world for amenities and quality of product and service."

"The expansion was a necessity," said David Rodd, President and Chief Executive Officer of Rodd Hotels & Resorts. "With two championship golf courses located on-site, along with the popular Brudenell Resort Golf Academy, we needed to address the ever-increasing demand for those seeking a golf vacation."

Rodd Hotels & Resorts has been successfully marketing vacation packages for several years. As an added service to golf package buyers, Rodd Hotels & Resorts' central reservations office allows people to confirm accommodations and tee-off times with one call.

With the expansion, the resort now has three restaurants and three lounges on-site. Other amenities include a marina, spa services, indoor/outdoor pools, saunas, sea kayaking, windsurfing, canoeing, horseback riding, lawn bowling, tennis, seal watching boat tours and children's programs.

Rodd Brudenell River - A Rodd Signature Resort is the only resort east of Quebec with two championship golf courses on-site and is owned by Rodd Hotels & Resorts, Atlantic Canada's largest privately-owned hotel chain. During peak season, Rodd Hotels & Resorts employs 1,000 people throughout its properties in PEI, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Through its Business Development Program, ACOA provided a $500,000 repayable loan to Rodd Hotels & Resorts for the $2.6 million project to construct the cottage units.
