The province today officially opened the newest Visitor Information Centre in the community of St. Peter's.

The Centre is located in the heart of St. Peter's, providing tourism information to travellers in the area. "The location, with the access to both road traffic and trail users, makes it a great spot to promote the gateway to eastern PEI," noted Greg Deighan, Minister of Tourism. "I am sure that everyone who is travelling in the area will appreciate the accessibility that this Visitor Information Centre offers and we are very pleased to be a part of the growing business community for the area."

A new building was erected adjacent to the Confederation Trail and close to one of the main intersections of the community and is open to the public for Prince Edward Island travelling information.

Kevin MacAdam, Minister of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Environment as well as the MLA for the area was also on hand to officially open the Centre. "I have been looking forward to the opening of this particular centre," said Minister MacAdam. "The area is really growing rapidly, which is great to see. We want to ensure that anyone travelling in the eastern end of the Island has easy passage and all the information they need to enjoy all of eastern PEI."

The Visitors Information Centre is open 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. daily and will remain open until August 27, 2000.
