Sally's Beach Officially Opened

The province's newest day-use park is now open for business. Sally's Beach is located on Spry Point, near Little Pond in King's County. The land was once a part of an alternate energy project called "The Ark."

The former Ark building and some adjacent land was sold to become an inn. The rest of the land was turned over to the people of the province to enjoy as a park.

Over the past few months, the Department of Transportation and Public Works has worked to develop the park for the use of visitors. There is now a large picnic shelter, a parking lot, a nature trail and a boardwalk along the back of the beach.

"I'm really impressed with the work that's been done here," said Mike Currie, MLA for Georgetown Baldwin's Road. "I'm hoping a lot of people - both tourists and Islanders alike - will come and enjoy this great new development."

Some renovations are still underway. But the park was officially opened for business on Friday July 28, 2000. It will remain open into the fall.
