Lorie Kane Island Challenge A Sell-Out!

* Tourism [to Jan 2010]
Tourism PEI today announced that the upcoming Lorie Kane Island Challenge planned for August 29 and 30 at Brudenell River Golf Resort is now sold out.

Tickets for the event sold at a steady pace from the time the event was announced and a great number of people are anxiously awaiting the first Canadian Womens Skins Game. LPGA superstars Nancy Lopez, Se Ri Pak, Annika Sorenstam and Prince Edward Island's own Lorie Kane will compete in the two-day tournament. Annika Sorenstam has been in the news recently with her fifth win, taking the winner's trophy at the Japan Airlines Big Apple Classic this past Sunday. She and the other three players will provide some engaging, competitive golf for the fans at Brudenell.

Tourism Minister Greg Deighan noted, "Over 4,000 tickets have been issued for the tournament which is an excellent indicator of the excitement that these four competitive women are bringing to the game. All four players have excellent records and have known each other for some time, allowing for a familiarity that will enhance the competition."

Tourism PEI is organizing the event for the Brudenell course with national television broadcast being conducted by The Sports Network (TSN). The purse for the event is $225,000.

"We have seen a lot of interest in the Lorie Kane Island Challenge and have been very encouraged by the sales of tickets and the enthusiasm of Islanders as they prepare to volunteer for the two-day event," added Frank Butler, Deputy Minister for Tourism PEI. "We never have a problem here on the Island to get people out to volunteer their time and this event is no different. The Brudenell course is going to be an exciting place for spectators and everyone involved August 29 & 30, volunteers included."

Anyone who is hoping to purchase tickets can still place their name on a waiting list in the event that tickets do become available. "We want to make sure that people get a chance to see Lorie compete on one of her favourite courses where she practiced and perfected her game early in her career," noted Minister Deighan. If you want your name on a list, let us know and if tickets do become available, Tourism PEI will be in touch." To add your name to the waiting list for tickets, please contact Terri Campbell at Golf Links PEI, Inc. (368-5761).

The ladies will play nine holes on Tuesday, August 29 and another nine on Wednesday, August 30.
