The Government of Prince Edward Island is inviting the public to join in welcoming Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, during their visit to the province July 14 to 16. There will be a number of opportunities for Islanders to greet Their Royal Highness and to participate in festive events during the weekend.
The first public event is an official welcome to the province by Premier Pat Binns on Friday afternoon in front of Province House at 3:15. On Saturday, the couple will be unveiling a plaque at the Rodd Brudenell River Resort at 11:30, to be followed by a barbeque which is open to local residents and visitors. From there, they will travel to the historic St. Mary's Church in Indian River, arriving at 1:30, and the church grounds will be open to the public. The last public event on Saturday is a tour of Gateway Village in Borden-Carleton, beginning at 4:30.
On Sunday morning, the Earl and Countess will be attending a church service at St. Peter's Cathedral in Charlottetown at 11:00. Following the service, they will walk from the church to Fanningbank, the residence of the Lieutenant Governor, greeting people along the way. At 2:00 on Sunday afternoon, they will arrive at the Confederation Birthplace Commemorative Park on the Charlottetown waterfront, where they will once again be mingling with the public.
The final public event is back at Province House, where the Earl of Wessex will officially open the Canadian Branch Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
While in Prince Edward Island, the couple will also be attending a performance of "Emily" at the Confederation Centre and a dinner hosted by the federal government.
They will be staying at the Delta Prince Edward.
