Mill River and Brudenell provincial golf courses have been chosen by Golf Digest as four-star courses. This designation provides the courses with notoriety that golfers around the world look for. The magazine annually releases a publication called "Places to Play" and critiques courses all over the world. In the year 2000, Prince Edward Island has captured these two four-star classifications as well as a five-star rating for Crowbush.
The designation is for a two-year period, which means that the courses will hold this stature in the golf world for two golf seasons.
"It is a great compliment to be recognized by Golf Digest as a four-star," noted Greg Deighan, Minister of Tourism. "And to have that compliment doubled by citing two courses on Prince Edward Island is twice as good," the Minister added. "When a publication of this calibre determines that you are one of the best in the world, it puts the stamp of approval on the course for golfers around the globe. These four-star ratings will entice people to visit the Island and play the courses."
The Lorie Kane Island Challenge will be held on the Brudenell course August 29 and 30 this summer, furthering the notoriety of the course. And the Mill River course will see the Canadian Tour Mcdonald's PEI Golf Challenge, August 24-27.
Comments provided in the publication state, "one of the best; very scenic; excellent seaside course; best course I've ever played...etc." Comments and ratings are provided by more than 20,000 avid golfers and is considered a "golfer's bible."
"It's great to see our courses get the recognition that they deserve," noted Minister Deighan. "We look forward to welcoming readers to these and other courses on PEI, proving to them personally, that Prince Edward Island is one of the greatest "Places to Play."
