* Development and Technology [to Apr 2008]
IT Week 2000 has proven to be another successful event with Islanders participating in workshops, conferences, the IT Expo and Gala Dinner. Islanders from the ages of 4 to 94 attended with an overall increase in participation of over 300 per cent from IT Week 1998.

The event offered activities for everyone including senior's workshops, family workshops, workshops designed for business people and IT professionals as well as the very popular CompuChild activities organized for young children.

"I would like to recognize the many partners involved in the planning and execution of IT Week 2000 without whom ITAP could not have hosted such a fantastic event," says Mike Ives, President of the Information Technologies Association of PEI. "With the assistance of our members and many partners in IT Week the messages of the IT community and IT possibilities is spreading to all Islanders."

A youth conference organized for high school students across PEI attracted over 150 students. Highlighting the youth conference was a presentation on the process of MP3 by the Rude Mechanicals.

The Gala Dinner attracted over 500 guests from the IT sector, government community and private business celebrating some of the best and most innovative projects developed in PEI and looking into the future of IT in Prince Edward Island.

IT Week 2000 wrapped-up in Summerside where creative Island students from grades 1 to 12 had an opportunity to show off their IT savvy at the IT Student Expo.

IT Week 2000 offered activities for everyone which was demonstrated through the support and participation from all Islanders. Through IT Week and with the assistance of the IT community, Islanders are more aware than ever of the possibilities of the IT world.

IT Week 2000, held May 4 to 14, was hosted by the Information Technologies Association of Prince Edward Island in partnership with the Government of Canada as represented by Veterans Affairs Canada and Industry Canada, the Province of Prince Edward Island as represented by the Department of Development and Technology, the University of Prince Edward Island and Holland College.
