Lorie Kane Island Challenge Planning Underway

* Tourism [to Jan 2010]
Tourism Minister Greg Deighan says that planning for this summer's Lorie Kane Island Challenge is well underway. "All of the elements necessary for a successful event are coming together. Ticket sales have been brisk, corporate sponsorships is in place and an army of 200 volunteers has been recruited," said Mr. Deighan.

"The Brudenell golf course where the event will be held has come through the winter very well and should be in great shape for the international field of LPGA superstars," noted the Minister.

The Tourism Minister said that interest in the first-ever Canadian Women's skins game has been very high. "To date, we've sold tickets in five provinces and six U.S. states. We've also had inquiries from media throughout North America," said Mr. Deighan.

The Minister explained that in early June, planning for TSN's national broadcast of the event will commence. "The logistics of televising a golf tournament over two days are substantial and a great deal of planning is required. TSN has assigned their top production crew to the broadcast," explained the Minister.

"Golf fans are in for a real treat. The skins game format means plenty of excitement with every shot on every hole. There is no doubt about it -- it is going to be a highlight of the summer," said Mr. Deighan.

The Lorie Kane Island Challenge takes place August 29 and 30 at the Brudenell River Golf Course. The field includes Lorie Kane, Annika Sorenstam, Se Ri Pak and Nancy Lopez playing for a purse of $225,000.
