Correctional Officers' Week

The Attorney General, Honourable Jeff Lantz has declared the week of May 7-13, 2000 Correctional Officers' Week on Prince Edward Island. During this week, all Islanders are encouraged to consider the work that these highly trained professional men and women perform 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, as Correctional Officers.

Currently, there are approximately 90 Correctional Officers who play a key role in Canada's justice system offering secure, rehabilitative, and reintegrative services to inmates within the Provincial Correctional Centre and the Prince County Correctional Centre. One of their main goals is to encourage these inmates in becoming law-abiding citizens; thereby providing Islanders with safer communities.

All Islanders are encouraged to find out how well the correctional system on Prince Edward Island is operating and the measures that are being taken to promote and improve public safety.

Tours of the Correctional Centres are available to the general public, with prior notice.
