Education Minister Chester Gillan announced today that Carolyn Simpson, of West Royalty, has accepted the position of Kindergarten Program Administrator.
"The Department of Education is very fortunate that Ms. Simpson has accepted this secondment opportunity to help develop and implement the first-ever publicly-funded Kindergarten on Prince Edward Island," said Minister Gillan. "Her combination of education and experience is a welcomed asset to our Department."
Ms. Simpson has been a Learning Manager of the Early Childhood Care and Education Program at Holland College for the past nine years. This is her 21st year in the early childhood education field.
"I am looking forward to working with early childhood educators across Prince Edward Island in the coming months as we implement the new publicly-funded Kindergarten," said Ms. Simpson.
In the coming weeks, the Department will establish a Working Group with representation from early childhood educators (owners/operators), the Departments of Education and Health and Social Services and other education stakeholders.
Ms. Simpson begins her new duties with the Department of Education on May 8.
