Two senior diplomats with the United States foreign service will begin an official visit to Prince Edward Island today. Thomas Weston, Charge d'Affaires with the United States Embassy in Ottawa and Bruce Ehrnman, Consul General in Halifax, will meet with a number of government and business leaders in an active schedule over the next two days.
This afternoon, the two will tour the newly-opened, world class Cavendish Farm potato processing facility in New Annan. From there, they will tour the Strait Crossing Staging Facility in Borden-Carleton.
On Thursday, their itinerary includes official visits to Lieutenant Governor Gilbert Clements, Legislative Speaker Nancy Guptill, Premier Catherine Callbeck and Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Minister Walter Bradley. They will also meet with representatives of the Prince Edward Island Potato Board.
As well, Mr. Weston will address the Hillsborough Rotary Club at noon on Thursday.
Mr. Weston has been a member of the U.S. foreign service since 1969. During much of his career, he specialized in German affairs. Mr. Ehrnman is also a career foreign service officer, with extensive experience in the Middle East. He assumed the position of Consul General in Halifax in August of this year.
They will leave the province late Thursday afternoon.
