Summer Program to Employ Students Interested in Health Care

* Health and Social Services [to Nov 2005]
Health and Social Services Minister Mildred Dover advised today that government will offer the Health Care Futures program once again this summer.

Through Health Care Futures, 90 Island students will be employed at Island health care facilities during the summer months.

"We are very pleased to re-offer this program which met with overwhelming success last summer," said Minister Dover, "More than 90 new summer jobs were created. The students gained very meaningful work experience while contributing to our health care services. And certainly, staff and patients enjoyed having the young people as much as they enjoyed being there."

The minister advised that one of PEI's greatest strengths in recruiting health professionals has been to provide opportunities for Islanders to return home to practice. "This program is another opportunity for Government to support young Islanders to pursue an interest in health care, and to introduce them to the many opportunities that are available here in PEI," she said.

Students who have completed grade 12 are eligible for the program. Priority will be given to those interested in nursing and related careers. Applications are available at all Regional Services Centres, and the Department of Health and Social Services. Applications should be submitted by March 31, 2000.
