Regional Health Boards Welcome New Members

Following a new election and appointment process, 39 Islanders are now representing their communities on regional health boards, 21 of whom are new board members.

Health and Social Services Minister Mildred Dover advised today that the transition from government-appointed boards to combined elected and appointed boards over the past few months has been a very smooth process.

Following the creation of 22 electoral zones and board elections at regional annual meetings in November, several new members were elected and appointed to the health boards. "Each of the five boards is now all up to full complement. We have 18 returning board members who add depth to the boards through their knowledge and experience. We also have 21 fresh new faces who bring new perspectives to issues. We welcome their guidance in helping to ensure that health services are meeting the needs of Islanders in their communities," said the minister.

Now serving the Eastern Kings Health board are Weston Rose (chair) and Peter MacAdam, elected; Freda MacKie and Hilda Rossiter, newly appointed; and Louise MacDonald, Thelma MacDonald, and Mary MacPhee, re-appointed.

Current Southern Kings Health board members include Michael Gallant (chair) and David White, elected; Sherry Kacsmarik, June Glover and Sandra Myers, newly appointed; and Tom Carver and Thelma MacLeod, re-appointed.
