Special Gift For New Year's Babies

Premier's Office
Millennium celebrations will mean something special for babies born January 1, 2000, on Prince Edward Island.

The Province of Prince Edward Island, through the Provincial Millennium Committee, will be presenting the babies with a special pewter bank.

The Prince Edward Island 2000 logo will be displayed on the bank; and given the limited number that will be presented, it truly will be a keepsake for years to come. Traditionally, about five babies are born on New Year's day on Prince Edward Island.

Honourable Mildred Dover, Minister of Health & Social Services, will present the bank to the first baby born at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on January 1, 2000.

"The birth of a new baby is always a special occasion, but the birth at the beginning of a new millennium adds a special dimension to the happy event. This pewter bank will be something that will serve as a life long reminder of the fact they were born on the first day of the new millennium, and I applaud the Millennium Committee for this special recognition of families," stated Minister Dover.

The Provincial Millennium Committee is supporting a number of community based initiatives in recognition of this special time in our history.
