Since its inception in 1997, the event has doubled in size, attracting an eclectic mix of delegates from hot new media companies and producers from across Canada and around the world. Last year, more than 300 people attended the event.
At the Festival, delegates will be able to "network" with the people at the heart of this exciting industry, experiencing a "new age" focus in an invigorating Cape Breton Ceilidh atmosphere.
Berni Wood, Investment Representative for Film, Television and New Media for Enterprise PEI and member of the Board of Directors for ADMF, feels this event is an excellent opportunity for new media professionals, particularly those new to the digital media industry.
"ADMF provides a forum for industry professionals to network and learn about the up and coming trends in the new media industry," said Wood. "The educational opportunities are phenomenal, with seminars touching on content, creativity, technology and business issues. It's not every day that a group of such creative and business oriented individuals get together to discuss new media opportunities, so people should definitely take advantage of it."
The ADMF is the only festival of its kind in Atlantic Canada and ADMF Board Members are exploring opportunities to make it an international event.
ADMF '99 will see another very rich and stimulating program this year featuring national and international speakers discussing strategic issues facing the new media industry. An awards competition will showcase the best and most creative new media developers in Atlantic Canada. A $10,000 "Telefilm Canada New Media Award" will be presented at this year's festival for the first time.
The keynote address will be delivered by Douglas Trumbull, a visionary film maker, innovator and entrepreneur. Trumbull is considered the father of special effects and motion rides (e.g., Blade Runner, 2001 A Space Odyssey, Star Trek, etc.); father of numerous patents; and, current innovator and entrepreneur in the future of 3D-centric digital production for feature films and television, theme parks, the Internet and broadband.
