Craft, giftware and apparel manufacturers from across Atlantic Canada are invited to submit nominations for the Atlantic Canada Craft Awards for Excellence, the principle form of recognition for leadership and excellence in the Atlantic craft industry. The deadline for this year's nominations is October 11, 1999.
The purpose of these prestigious awards is to highlight the accomplishments of those who produce outstanding craftsmanship and to recognize those who are strong supporters of the industry. Recipients of the Atlantic Canada Craft Awards for Excellence are leaders, who by their professional example, personify the highest standards and credibility within the craft and giftware industry in Atlantic Canada. These outstanding professionals have achieved prominence as a result of the honour they bring to their industry and region.
One Atlantic Craft Award for Excellence is presented to an individual, organization or company in each of the following categories:
The "Prominence of Design" award is given to the producer whose products consistently demonstrate the significant use of design solutions in their conception, development and production.
The "Outstanding Exporter" award is given to the person(s) who has been instrumental in the exporting of crafts, giftware and apparel from one or more of the Atlantic Provinces outside of this region.
The "Outstanding Retailer" award is given to the person(s) who has been outstanding in supporting and featuring quality crafts, giftware and apparel from the region. The award recipient would have set an example and provided leadership for an extended period of time in quality merchandising, in service to the public, and in aiding the development of producers.
The "Industry Leader/Supporter" award is given to the person(s) who has demonstrated superior leadership, development of quality crafts, giftware and apparel and has made exceptional contributions to the industry over the past five years.
The winners of the Atlantic Craft Awards for Excellence will be announced during the Atlantic Craft Trade Show, being held at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax from February 6-8, 2000. The Atlantic Craft Trade Show is the largest wholesale craft show in Canada. Last year, the three-day show attracted 212 exhibitors from the four Atlantic provinces and approximately 1,500 buyers from all parts of Canada and the U.S.
