September 17, 1999 The fire and resulting clean-up at the Sir Louis Henry Davies Law Courts has made it necessary to re-locate court services to 3 Brighton Road, the old PEI Nurses Residence, in Charlottetown. All telephone numbers remain the same and the entrance is located at the back of the building. "After the fire, services of the court were provided from the Sheriff's Office located across from the courthouse," said the Honourable Wes MacAleer, Minister of Community Services and Attorney General. "Since the clean-up requires more attention than was initially planned, the decision was made, in the best interests of both the public and staff, to re-locate the Supreme Court's trial and appeal divisions, as well as the activities of filing and searching of documents, to 3 Brighton Road." Opening ceremonies for the new court house were set to take place on September 8 and were initially rescheduled to October 7. A new date for the re-opening ceremonies will be announced once the clean-up of the Sir Louis Henry Davies Law Courts is closer to completion. Media Contact: Ron MacMillan
