Agreement Reached In Lewis Case

A final agreement has been reached between the provincial government and Edwin Lewis of Freetown. The agreement was announced by Agriculture and Forestry Minister Eric Hammill. Its ends a lengthy legal process which began in 1983 after Mr. Lewis challenged the department's right to order him to spray his potato crop against ringrot.

"I am very pleased that a mutually agreeable solution has been reached and that this matter has finally been resolved," said Mr. Hammill.

Mr. Hammill said the agreement was consistent with the provincial government's commitment to fairness.
