Island Athletes Compete In "Jeux de la Francophonie"

Approximately 40 Island athletes will be waving the PEI flag at the upcoming Jeux de la Francophonie (Francophone Games) to be held in Memramcook, New Brunswick, August 12 to 22. Francophone youth from across Canada will meet to share their pride in being French-Canadians and develop a national vision for the youth of the Francophonie.

Jeux de la Francophonie encourages active living and community involvement in the area of francopohone recreation. For example, there will be competitions in track and field, volleyball and badminton, as well as in artistic activities such as music and visual art improvisation. PEI athletes will participate in volleyball, music and leadership.

"The Government of Prince Edward Island is proud to support the development of the Jeux de la Francophonie," said Honourable Chester Gillan, Minister responsible for Sport. "Jeux de la Francophonie will provide Island athletes with an opportunity to further develop their skills while learning teamwork, dedication and fair play."
