July 30, 1999 An amendment to the Planning Act regulations will increase the maximum size permitted for institutional lots in the Stratford, Charlottetown, Cornwall and Summerside Regional Planning Areas, from one acre to three acres. In October 1998, limits were established on subdivision and building permit approvals: clause 80.4(4)(e) allowed the subdivision of one institutional lot per existing parcel of land within the Special Planning Areas, but restricted the maximum size of such lots to one acre. "The change takes into consideration that more space is required to accommodate parking lots, on-site wells and sewage disposal systems for institutional buildings," stated Wes MacAleer, Minister of Community Services and Attorney General. "The amendment will allow communities more flexibility as they continue to grow and develop." The amendment becomes effective August 7, 1999. Media Contact: Kingsley Lewis
