Health and Social Services Minister Mildred Dover announced today Health Care Futures, a new summer employment initiative for PEI students interested in future careers in the province's health care sector.
Through Health Care Futures, ninety students from across the Island will be hired to work in the health field for an eight-week period during July and August, 1999.
Minister Dover advised that health care is a vital and growing field. "As the current health workforce ages, it is important to continue to attract youth to health care professions. By providing students with positive, meaningful work experiences, we hope to encourage our youth to consider careers in the health sector," she said.
During the summer, students will be working in a variety of settings including hospitals and government operated nursing homes.
Minister Dover indicated that the recruitment of students for the Health Care Futures initiative has begun through ad placement in local newspapers.
Students who have completed a minimum of grade 12 and are interested in summer employment in the health care sector may pick up an application form from the Department of Health and Social Services, 11 Kent St, or at any regional services centre throughout PEI. The deadline for applications is Wednesday, June 30, 1999. Students wishing further information should call 368-4900.
