The Provincial Millennium Committee is accepting applications for financial assistance for projects that celebrate the millennium theme – Inspired by Our Past, Embracing Our Future – from communities, municipalities, individuals and non-profit organizations. These province-wide events will provide Islanders with memories of a unique and exciting moment in the history of our province and the world.
"By providing funds to projects, individuals and initiatives, we hope to leave lasting legacies across the province," said Bud Whelan, Chair of the Provincial Millennium Committee. Successful projects will relate to the themes and priority areas established by the committee.
Millennium Themes:
- to encourage the active participation of residents and visitors to Prince Edward Island in recognizing and celebrating this milestone;
- to recognize our rich culture and history, and especially Prince Edward Island's role as the Birthplace of Confederation;
- to mark our place in the future of Canada and the world; and
- to leave a meaningful legacy for the enjoyment and enhancement of future generations.
Priority Areas:
- social development for Islanders, and in particular, youth and seniors;
- community development; and
- utilizing and promoting the use and advancement of technology.
Project applications should contain the name of a contact person, a description of the initiative, a financial plan and must outline how the project relates to the Millennium Themes.
Project applications will be reviewed on three different occasions and deadlines for submissions for these reviews are July 31, 1999, October 31, 1999, and February 28, 2000. Projects which are not approved initially may be considered on a later review date.
The committee expects to receive numerous worthwhile submissions and will undertake to assist as many projects as possible.
