Prince Edward Island has been selected to be the "prize" destination for a contest held by Grand & Toy -- a national retail chain.
The 30-35 contest winners will arrive in Prince Edward Island via Sunquest Travel and will stay at the Prince Edward Hotel. The event brochure notes that "Charlottetown is a visually stunning collection of postcard worthy vistas, packaged with the friendliest people and the best seafood on the Eastern Coast of North America. The Birthplace of Canada, and home to 'Anne of Green Gables,' the Island offers an infinite number of cultural, historical and family oriented attractions." Contest winners are looking forward to a weekend of golf, lobster and sightseeing.
The Honourable Kevin J. MacAdam, Minister of Fisheries and Tourism, noted that hosting contest winners from all across Canada is an excellent opportunity for additional tourism exposure. "There are some fellow Canadians who may never have had a chance to visit Prince Edward Island as a vacation destination, but once we get them here to see how beautiful a place we really have, no doubt they will be returning." He added, "It is very flattering that Grand & Toy have chosen our fair province as the contest destination, and I am sure it encouraged many people to enter the contest. The chance to travel to a choice vacation destination doesn't come along every day ... I also am very proud that we can showcase PEI, and I am sure that the contest winners will be very happy with their prize."
The winners will participate in walking tours, seal tours, golf excursions and lobster dinners. They will also tour the Anne of Green Gables homestead in Cavendish and take part in some deep sea fishing. All in all, a very gratifying weekend.
