Students from across the province will be participating in the Fourth Annual Provincial Heritage Fair tomorrow, May 13, at the Confederation Centre of the Arts from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Fair is open to the public during these hours. Approximately 2,000 students, teachers and volunteers will participate in the Fair which encourages children in grades 5 to 9 to explore their heritage, whether it be their own or that of our great nation. This year's Fair features 172 exhibits — 148 English and 24 French.
"By taking part in the Provincial Heritage Fair, students have the opportunity to gain a deeper appreciation of their personal, community, provincial and national history," said Honourable Chester Gillan, Minister responsible for Culture and Heritage.
The primary focus of the Fair is to encourage students to use any medium of their choice to tell stories and share information about Canadian heroes, events and lifestyles of the past and to provide a venue for students to present the results of their efforts to the community.
Fifteen Island students will be selected at the Provincial Heritage Fair to attend the National Heritage Fair in Edmonton, Alberta on July 12-18.
The Provincial Heritage Fair is sponsored by the PEI Department of Education, and The CRB (Bronfman) Foundation's Heritage Project which is well-known for producing the Heritage Minutes, seen on major Canadian television networks and in movie theatres across the country.
