Health and Social Services Minister Mildred Dover advised today that Prince Edward Island was active in developing the vision for the national children's agenda released today by the federal, provincial and territorial governments.
The vision paper identifies four goals for a national children's agenda, specifically that children are healthy; safe and secure; successful at learning; and socially skilled.
"As a province, we are committed to the vision, and we are taking additional steps to realize these goals for children and families in Prince Edward Island, through our provincial healthy child development strategy," said Minister Dover.
Four government departments are working together to develop the provincial strategy which focuses on children from the prenatal period to eight years of age. Several goals have been identified such as encouraging safe and secure relationships, and providing early and continuous learning experiences for children.
Minister Dover advised that discussions will begin in May with various provincial groups to receive their input into the national and provincial strategies.
