Young Islanders are reminded to register for YDAY, a new summit bringing together youth from across the province—by Wednesday, September 21.
“We are excited at how YDAY is shaping up—from our facilitator and keynote speaker to our DJ—there will be something for everyone at this summit,” said Minister Richard Brown, Workforce and Advanced Learning. “We want all interested young people to attend the event and have their say in issues that affect our Island youth.”
YDAY is a full-day event October 21 at Holland College in Charlottetown. Islanders aged 16–34—who are passionate about creating better opportunities for young people in our province and who bring diverse perspectives and life experiences —are encouraged to register. Here’s what’s on the schedule:
• YDAY’s keynote speaker will be Candy Palmater, a Canadian comedian, activist, actress, writer, international speaker, and award-winning TV and radio personality who has executive produced three films on Mi’kmaw culture.
• The official event DJ will be Lonely Kid, an exciting young local talent who has been nominated at both the East Coast Music Awards and Music PEI Awards and will release his new EP in early October “For Your Happiness,” featuring talent from across Atlantic Canada .
• Facilitator will be Tim Merry, who works locally and internationally to support change in communities, organizations, and societies through participatory engagement.
• Holland College’s Culinary Institute of Canada students will be catering YDAY with a BBQ lunch.
