New anesthesiologist fills complement at Prince County Hospital

Health and Wellness
Anesthesiology services are fully staffed at Prince County Hospital with the recent recruitment of Dr. Brenda Keeping.

“Recruiting physicians and specialists to Prince Edward Island continues to be a top priority,” said Minister of Health and Wellness Robert Henderson. “We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Keeping, with her wealth of knowledge and experience, as she enhances the patient services available at Prince County Hospital.”

After providing locum support recently at the Prince County Hospital, Dr. Keeping made the decision to relocate to PEI on a permanent basis and will begin full-time practice this month.

Dr. Keeping is the most recent addition to the three anesthetists’ positions at the Prince County Hospital. Dr. Vandana Vaishnav has been providing services since January 2012, and Dr. Nihat Bhuiyan joined the team in September 2015.

“My family is very much enjoying being part of the Summerside community,” said Dr. Bhuiyan. “My partner and I, who is also a physician, have just welcomed our third son, our first Canadian and Island baby.”

“A special thank you to Dr. Vandana Vaishnav and Dr. Nihat Bhuiyan, who have been providing consistent support to these services while the vacant position was being filled – as well as invaluable additional support from Dr. Paul Christensen,” said Dr. Andre Celliers, chief of Family and Community Medicine and Hospital Services West. “I also want to thank the locum physicians who have supported services during this time.”
